Del Mar Vacation Planning

Happy March! We’re virtually escaping the cold and starting to plan our summer trips safely, of course. Last summer, we made a multiple-week trip with Stay Del Mar on the Cape and experienced a handful of dog-friendly properties and we want to share a few with you! Plus, Del Mar provided us with a discount code (KNOXANDBEAR) for all our followers to use on their next rental booking.

Last Memorial Day weekend, we packed up and headed to Chatham, where we checked in to Del Mar’s Lover’s Lakehouse (#621). It is hard to pick favorites because all the homes were uniquely different, but I have to say this topped the list. Quick highlight, the beautifully updated four-bedroom home is situated right on Lovers Lake. The front yard is close to the road, but the backyard has a massive patio with a fire pit and grill, and an expansive yard leads you down to the lake where you can kayak (provided!), paddleboard, or just let the dogs swim. Think cookouts, firepit hangouts, and stay in your bathing suit all day kind of house. Plus, the house is in Chatham, close to the adorable downtown and all the best restaurants and shops.

Dog-friendly Notes:

  • Pro: big backyard, dog toys provided, bowls provided, easy access to swimming, safe decks to keep the dogs contained on.

  • Con: Front yard is close to a busier road, so keep an eye on the dogs if they head towards the front.

From there, we were able to extend our trip and headed to All Points East (#531) in Orleans. This home was a completely different vibe being more in town, but wow, were we so impressed. The house is completely redone with marble bathrooms, an updated kitchen, and a fun bonus space with adorable kids’ bedrooms. This house is big, so if you are WFH, there are plenty of desks and areas to spread out and work remotely. For the dogs, their outdoor space was AWESOME. They have a HUGE corner grass lot completely fenced in with string lights, outdoor dining and lounges, and a grill. The dogs loved playing out here with no restrictions. We also loved the front porch watching cars drive by, and having happy hour on their high-top tables.

Dog-friendly Notes:

  • Pros: big fenced-in backyard, plenty of space to roam inside, safe upper deck to keep them contained on, lots of people watching from the front door.

  • Cons: Also on the main road, so be careful when in the driveway or the front porch.

When we checked out of Orleans, we headed to Oyster Isle (#326) on Lieutenant Island in Wellfleet. Have you heard of it? We have been visiting the Cape for a few years now and didn’t know this place existed! The Oyster Isle house is enormous with five bedrooms, a screened-in porch, a back deck for BBQing, and a private deck off the master. The yard is pretty small, but who needs a yard when you can walk to the private beaches! Yes, secluded beachES. This house was a favorite!

Dog-friendly Notes:

  • Pro: plenty of space to roam inside and a safe upper deck and screened-in porch to keep them contained. Plenty of quiet walks on the road. One beach had no restrictions on dogs, and another had a sign, but regardless, leashed dogs were on both shores.

  • Con: Small yard.

Next up, The Dive Inn (#447) in Eastham. Don’t let the name fool you! This LARGE home is located in an upscale private neighborhood and has a HUGE, completely fenced-in backyard and a fenced-in inground pool as well. We spent most of our time outside on the deck, lounging by the pool, and playing in the yard with the dogs.
