Summer isn't truly summer until that first ice cream cone of the season. This creamy treat lends itself to some sweet memories, so it’s no surprise that every year, on the third Sunday of July, we celebrate National Ice Cream Day.
I don’t need a rocket scientist to tell me that our dogs love ice cream, so this summer, celebrate the day with your favorite furry friend! While our dogs shouldn’t be having too much of this sweet treat, an occasional, special visit to your local ice cream shop would sure get their tails wagging!
Shake Shack:
If you are doing some traveling this summer with your dog, stop at Shake Shack. This national burger joint has a delicious menu for the humans, but also includes a small menu for Fido!
Their Pooch-iniⓇ includes a dollop of vanilla custard and is topped with specially made dog biscuits. I think Fido will approve!
Dairy Queen:
Another national chain that likes to take care of our pups is Dairy Queen. Dairy Queen will serve your dog the Pup Cup, a dish of their vanilla soft serve.
But Shhhh! It’s a secret! It’s not listed on their menu, so you’ll have to ask your server for this secret treat.
FoMu:
If you are headed to Boston this summer with your dog, check out FoMu. FoMu will be sure to please you and your pooch with their vegan and organic ice cream. With the use of dog-friendly sweeteners, this will be a healthier option for your dog!
Ask a FoMu server for a dog sundae and your pup can happily dig into a dish of locally made treats and vegan ice cream!
Jack & Charlie’s:
Heading to the island this summer? Check out Jack & Charlie’s ice cream shop in Nantucket, MA. This little shop is right on Straight Wharf and welcomes dogs!
With loads of different flavors, you’ll definitely find something delicious for yourself. As for your pooch, ask for a doggy cone and they’ll serve your dog vanilla ice cream in a cake cone, topped with a dog biscuit. Cute and tasty!

This ice cream shop is located on Cape Cod, MA and has something for everyone, including your pup! Ice Cream Café creates homemade ice cream out of high quality, fresh ingredients.
Indulge yourself and then ask for the doggie sundae, vanilla soft serve in a dish, and two dog biscuits for the toppings! Yum!
