Oyster Isle Life

Today we're packing up and leaving our 4th Del Mar Vacation home, and I'll be honest, Oyster Isle (#326) has been one of the hardest goodbyes on our Del Mar Vacations Cape Cod tour.

When we learned we were going to Lieutenant Island, we had no idea where that even meant, which made it an even greater adventure. Off the beaten track, Lt Island is an exclusive neighborhood of Wellfleet with a handful of private beaches.

When the tide gets low enough, walk around the island to discover all of the sea life and hiking spots, and when the tide rises again, enjoying swimming and kayaking. It's recommended you do not try and leave or come on the island an hour before or after high-tide as the tiny wooden bridge and road leading up to it becomes emersed in water. We learned this the hard way during one of our grocery runs!

When you go over the wooden bridge and arrive at Del Mar Vacations beautiful Oyster Isle home you'll feel immediately at ease. The home has 5 bedrooms and sleeps 11, perfect for friends, multiple families, and four-legged companions. Oyster Isle has views of the water from it's the private master deck as well as views of the wildlife (we saw a fox!) from the screened-in sunroom, and large back deck (perfect for BBQs!).

We kept saying the island had a Vermont meets Cape Cod feel with all the trees and privacy. Our most favorite part of our stay was the private beaches that we had access to. We started and ended our day by taking the pups to the beaches and letting them follow ALL the tiny crabs (make sure you look down!), play in the water, and chasing each other on the sand while watching the fishermen catch dinner.

The island is super walkable making it kid and dog-friendly, and the home perfect for everyone! We loved cooking dinner in the fully equipped kitchen and enjoyed eating in the vaulted ceiling dining room. At the end of the day, we looked forward to going to sleep in the master bedroom that had enough room to have three dog beds scattered about.

We can't wait to visit again! There is one summer week left in August, and we hope someone snags it and enjoys the island and property as much as we did.
